Description: On Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate the Church's birthday, when the Holy Spirit filled Jesus' disciples and sent them out into the streets with the message of God's saving grace for all people. God's miraculous work on that day changed everything for those earliest believers, and established a new "normal" for them: a life completely guided and transformed by the Holy Spirit. In our day, the Holy Spirit is still at work to move us past "normal" and toward TRANSFORMED. As we gather again for the first time in months, maybe normal isn't what we should pray for. Maybe the point that Jesus has for is Church is that He's got something better if we will step out in obedient faith to trust Him.
1. There is no such thing as "NORMAL"
Let go of your need for normal. Instead, ask: "how can my current circumstances produce a better me than before?"
2. The Lord will often disturb our normal to produce GROWTH
The disciples had to give up the ACCOMPANYING presence of Jesus in order to receive the INDWELLING presence of Jesus.
3. Our "new normal" means being humbled to SERVE one another
"When engaging in polarizing issues the follower of Jesus would do well to ask, 'Am I uneasy with this perspective because it runs contrary to Jesus' life & message, or am I uneasy with this perspective because it challenges the long held assumptions I've carried?'" - Rich Villodas
4. Our "new normal" means seeing that gathering is PRECIOUS
It is VITAL to the future of the Church that the HEALTH of our FAITH not be tied to the SIZE of our BUILDING
5. Our new normal means remembering why we EXIST
6. Our "New Normal" means being led by the Spirit PERSONALLY
ONE BIG THING: Make TRANSFORMATION the new normal!
