The Unlikely King Series: The King We Can Trust
Speaker: Tom Nelson
The truth is: to follow leaders we must first trust them.
- Can You Trust Jesus Completely?
1. Jesus Is Who He Claims To Be!
C.S. Lewis points out that when we examine Jesus’ claims we are lead to one of three logical conclusions. What he called the Tri-lemma.
1. Either Jesus is a complete lunatic--as Lewis describes him on the level of a poached egg...completely disconnected with reality. Or
2. Jesus is the most pathological liar imaginable--The most evil con artist ever to grace this planet--the ultimate ponzi schemer! A true monster! Or
3. Jesus truly is Lord, God in the flesh--Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer of the universe...the king of kings and Lord of Lords.
“A man who was merely a man and said the things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic...or else the devil of Hell. You must make your choice...you can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that option open to us. He did not intend to.”
- C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
- Jesus Does What He Says He Will Do!
“And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.” - Matthew 9:35
- Jesus Cares For You and Me
"When he saw the crowds, he (Jesus) had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”
- Matthew 9:26
In 1905 Ivilla Martin penned these words to the hymn His Eye Is On The Sparrow:
"Why should I feel discouraged and why should the shadows come?
Why should my heart be lonely and long for heaven and home?
When Jesus is my portion, a constant Friend is He,
His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me.
Whenever I am tempted; whenever clouds arise;
When songs give place to sighing; when hope within me dies;
I draw the closer to Him; from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me."
Jesus the good shepherd is always attentive to you and me no matter what we are experiencing or feeling. even when we wander away from him.
- Will You Follow Jesus Wholeheartedly?
