Joshua 5:13-15

Joshua 6:1-5

“You are but a poor soldier of Christ if you think you can overcome without fighting, and suppose you can have the crown without the conflict.” - John Chrysostom, Martyred 407AD

Following Christ means there is a fight that is always before you. You will face intense opposition from 3 fronts:

Internal - Battlefield within yourself
External - Battlefield outside yourself
Spiritual - Battlefield in the Spiritual realm

Victory on all three fronts is possible, but not if you choose to fight in your own strength and by your own terms. Israel’s victory at Jericho shows us how to face your walls and turn opposition into an opportunity for the glory of God.

2 Co 10:3–4 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.

1) When facing the wall remember you…
Fight from The win, not for the Win (Josh. 6:1–5)

“See, I have given Jericho into your hand, vs 6:2

1 Jn 5:4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

Why our identity in Christ is key! Champions fight like champions. Losers fight like losers.

2) When facing the wall remember you must…
Be Found faithful (Josh. 6:6–16, 20)

7 And he said to the people, “Go forward. March around the city and let the armed men pass on before the ark of the Lord…vs 10 You shall not shout or make your voice heard, neither shall any word go out of your mouth, until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout.”

This would require
Patience, faithfully follow the Lord’s instruction for the week
Self Control, hold your tongue
Perseverance, seven days of marching, seven on the seventh

Jas 1:3–4 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

3) When facing the wall remember you must…
Fully Finish what you started (Josh. 6:17–19, 21–27)

Jos 6:20 So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they captured the city.

Israel was given three instructions

- Devote Everything In the City to God
- Rescue the Prostitute
- Finish Off The Enemy

"Treat the enemy like the dog he is, put your foot down and say, “get out!”" - Smith Wigglesworth

UNITE714 | Week 9 Prayer
Dates: 5/17-23

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations. Isaiah 61:1-4 (ESV)

THE PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are the Anointed One. We are thankful our Heavenly Father has given us the Holy Spirit. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, enable us to boldly proclaim the Good News to a world ravaged by anxiety, fear, panic, and loss. We ask You to pour out Your Holy Spirit on our broken world so that 2020 will become “the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Oh God, we ask You to heal our broken world.

Only You can replace panic with peace, fear with faith, and grief with grace. Lord, for many of our world’s most vulnerable people groups, this worldwide quarantine has been a time of darkness, fear, and anger. Many are struggling mentally, emotionally, and financially. Lord, lift them out of despair. Deliver them by Your great salvation. May they truly discover the eternal freedom only found in You.

We thank You for mitigating the effects of COVID-19 and expanding Your footprint in the nations of the world. Millions of people are asking You for refuge and protection. We know You hear them and are freshly touching our world.

With one voice, we boldly come before Your throne of grace in prayer: Heavenly Father, in the name of Your Son, Jesus, eradicate COVID-19 and pour out Your Spirit on the earth. Amen.
