Discussion and Application Questions for Group Life Communities
We invite you to use the following questions as you prepare for your Group Life community meetings this week. If you would like to participate in a group life meeting contact us at info@pnconline.org. New groups are starting on Monday and Thursday evenings at 6:30pm.
Read John 6:16-21
Can you recall a major storm you have been caught in?
Observation: (be curious, imagine yourself in the story)
-What do you observe about this passage?
-How would you describe the emotions of the disciples?
-How does this situation relate to the previous story?
-How is the situation resolved? Describe the process.
Interpretation: (uncover the 'why' behind the story, why are certain details included)
-What does the sign of Jesus walking on the water and calming the sea tell us about him? What examples in the Old Testament show you God's power over the waters?
-What is significant about Jesus use of 'I am' in the midst of the storm?
-How do you think the disciples' opinion of Jesus changed as they witnessed his power over the sea?
Application: (connect the message to your personal life)
-Has there been a time in your life when you have felt completely overwhelmed?
-What is an area of your life that is causing fear? What would it look like to invite Jesus to reveal himself there?
-What are some practical steps you can take to invite Jesus into your 'boat' this week? How can other group members pray for you?
Next Week's Study: "The Seven Signs of Jesus" from the Gospel of John. Sign 6: John 9:1-41 Jesus is the light of the world.
