In Psalm 1, David addresses the issue of possessing happiness, of being a success. He tells us how to truly obtain happiness, to have a life that is labeled as successful. So, let's examine together the means to possessing a happy and successful life.

I. The Keys to a happy and successful life, vs 1-2.
A. Things to avoid, vs 1.
1. Must not walk in the counsel of the ungodly.
2. Must not stand in the path of sinners.
3. Must not sit in the seat of the scornful.
4. Note the progression.
B. Biblical diligence, vs 2.
1. This diligence consists of both our affections and our intellect.
a. Our affections-delight in the Word of God.
b. Our intellect-mediate on the Word of God.
2. How is your relationship with the Word of God?

II. The Picture of the Blessed Life, vs 3.
A. A truly successful life is like a well planted tree.
B. Why this comparison?
1. Both have a strong foundation.
2. Both are productive.
3. Both are permanent.
4. Both are promised a successful future.
That is the formula for success as presented by King David. It is a formula that works.
