Nehemiah 1:1-11

Sometimes in life we encounter situations and issues that break our hearts. Often though times God wants to use our broken hearts to advance His perfect Kingdom. That was the case for Nehemiah, who God used to restore the walls of Jerusalem. Here in chapter 1 we see Nehemiah’s heart broken over the state of these walls and we can also learn…

What to do When Your Heart is Broken:

1. Allow yourself to be broken
Nehemiah 1:4

2. Pray, pray, and pray some more
Nehemiah 1:4-11, Phil. 4:4-7

3. Hold onto God’s promises
Nehemiah 1:5-11, Ps. 1:1-2, Is. 40:31, Jam. 1:5, Ps. 23:4, Rom. 10:13
Reflection Questions:

1. What issue or situation in your life breaks your heart? (i.e. your marriage, homelessness, those who have never heard the Gospel)

2. What’s your typical response to the feeling of your heart being broken? (i.e. ignore it, complain about it, blame someone, ect.)

3. What practical step(s) do you need to take in order to allow God to use your broken heart to advance His perfect Kingdom? Who will keep you accountable to that?
