It’s easy for mothers to feel invisible as they raise their kids. As she studied the building of great cathedrals in Europe, one mom describes how she came to see herself as unseen but still very important . On this Mother’s Day weekend we look at Mary, the mother of Jesus, and how proud a mom she was. Mother Mary, who was unseen but not invisible.

John 2:1-5

1. Unseen not invisible.

Mary could easily have felt invisible. After the events of Jesus being left behind in Jerusalem when he was twelve and his parents finding him at the temple, there are only two times she shows up in any of the Gospels.

It all began to make sense! No one can see me, because I’m the Invisible Mom.

GROWTH GROUP / PERSONAL REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. What is something you are proud of or grateful for, as a parent raising kids, that most people don’t know about you? OR, What is something positive your mom did raising you that most people don’t know about her?
2. Describe a way you have been a helicopter parent to your kids or how your parents were one to you.
3. What do you think the difference is between unseen and invisible?
4. If you are a parent, does it make a difference for you to know that God sees what you do to raise your kids even if no one else does?

2. Building cathedrals.

1. No one can say who built the great cathedrals—we have no record of their names.

2. These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished.

3. They made great sacrifices and expected no credit.

4. The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.

GROWTH GROUP / PERSONAL REFLECTION QUESTIONS

This week consider when you have ever felt invisible, unnoticed or unappreciated. Thank God that no positive action you do on behalf of others is too small for God to notice.
