Conversation Starter: Daniel 3:1-30

TAKEAWAY: What is one personal takeaway and one question that you had from the sermon?
THINKING BACK: Have you ever been in a situation when your faith offended someone? What happened? OR in what ways might your faith be offensive in our contemporary culture going forward?
SCRIPTURE: Read Daniel 3:16-18. What is the difference between “God Will” faith and “Even If” faith? How does “Even If” faith change the way we respond to God during times of difficulty, sorrow, and pain?
OPENING UP: Is there a time in your life where you either personally embraced or witnessed in someone else this idea of “Even If” faith? What was the situation? How did this “Even If” faith impact you?
REFLECT: We all have idols that we are prone to turn to and worship over and above God. Usually they aren’t bad things, but rather good things that have simply become ultimate things. What idols do you find yourself more likely to bow to in your life?
PRAY: Read Matthew 26:39 and Hebrews 4:14-16 and remember how our God enters the furnace with us.As we consider this, let’s entrust all of our concerns and hopes to God, knowing that he is with us in all of it. And as we pray let us remind ourselves that God is God, God is good, and God is still in control.

Daniel 3:1-30

Title: "Even If" Faith
Scripture: Daniel 3:1-30
Speaker: Reid Kapple, ReidK@ChristCommunityKC.org

Act I - The Golden Selfie
Act II - The Tattle Tales
Act III - Nebby is Not Happy
Act IV - The Guys Don’t Budge
Scripture directs us to do God’s will and then to trust him to take care of the outcome. This is precisely what Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did. They did not pretend to know what would happen to them. They had no desire to be burned alive and no doubt prayed for deliverance. Still, they recognized their chief duty was obedience, not figuring out what God would do next. -Bryan Chapell, The Gospel According to Daniel
>> Even if everyone else is doing it
>> Even if we are seen as strange
“Skeptics believe that any exclusive claims to a superior knowledge of spiritual reality cannot be true. But this objection is itself a religious belief...They believe the world would be a better place if everyone dropped the traditional religions’ views of God and truth and adopted theirs. Therefore, their view is also an ‘exclusive’ claim about the nature of spiritual reality. If all such views are to be discouraged, this one should be as well.” -Tim Keller
>> Even if God doesn’t
“Everything is necessary that God sends our way; nothing can be necessary that he withholds.” - John Newton

Matthew 26:39
