Seven Signs of Jesus: A seven-week series in the Gospel of John for declaring the relevancy and power of Jesus' life and ministry in our present times. The signs of Jesus point to us to the reality that Jesus is God and that through faith in him we might enter into a vital relationship with him. When Jesus 'shows up' doors of endless opportunity open for us. May you experience his presence today.

Jesus will surprise you with his better plans for you.
Jesus 'shows up' with wisdom, power and compassion.
Sabbath is for celebration and worship of the living God.
God may disrupt your plans to show you his greater vision.
God's better plan....Jesus the Lamb of God who died for the sins of the whole world.

Discussion and Application Questions for Group Life Communities

Read John 5:1-9
Observation: (be curious, imagine yourself in the story)
-What would this scene feel and look like?
-Why would people lay on porches? What were they hoping for?
-Describe the interaction with Jesus and the man? How would you characterize the man's attitude?
-Why is there no verse 4?
Interpretation: (uncover the 'why' behind the story, why are certain details included)
-How might superstitions or traditions(like the people waiting at the pool) hinder us from experiencing the presence and power of God? v3
-Why does Jesus ask, do you want to get well? What is Jesus doing with regard to this man's brokenness beyond his physical needs? v6
-Why does Jesus tell the man to pick up his mat and walk?
Application: (connect the message to your personal life)
-What is one superstition or ritual or tradition that you hold on to that might keep you from experiencing the fullness of Jesus?
-What excuses are you making or would you make if Jesus asked you if you wanted to get well?
-Is there an area of your life in which you would like Jesus to 'show up' for guidance or healing?
