EPHESIANS 5.15-21
Instead of being discipled by something else, I really want you to be discipled by Jesus.
1. That we would fix our eyes on Christ (Hebrews 12.1-2)
Run to Jesus when you feel disconnected
When you feel uncomfortable, there is probably something God is trying to root out of you.
We say, OK, we are in some sort of entanglement here.
2. That we That we would not just seek to understand truth but desire to apply truth because it all leads to the life God designed. (John 8.31-32, 10.10)
From head to heart, from heart to hands
We are creator not creation.
3. That we would take manhood and womanhood seriously (Gen 1.27-28)
This is OUR Project but when women go to conferences they get encouraged, when men go they hear about how worthless they are.
Distinct yet equal – we are not the same but we are equal.
You can do this! God will not call you to something he won’t empower you to do.
Don’t hide behind pride and shortcomings – there is freedom in being known
Ask for Help
Flourish in your gifts
4. That this would strengthen us not just personally but also communally (Ephesians 1.22-23)
Be visibly for each other – mentors
I pray that we would actively war against selfish passivity and aggression when it comes to being with each other.
Our kids need a church like this.
Titus 2.1-8
6. That how we function as men and women and husbands and wives would be a city on the hill for our neighborhoods. (Matthew 5.13-16, John 17.14)
The veneer is life is great! Marriage, kids… and most of the time you are just letting everything run with no leadership, love, or care simply so everyone can be happy.
Elements of counter cultural realities (John 17.14)
Pharisees – completely removed
Sadducees – completely indigenous
Zealots – fundamentals, not nice and forceful
Jesus – incarnational, comfortable being not of this world but in the midst of this world.
Here’s some revolution: Shut the commercial off, commit to only positive things to say about spouse…
Value them as souls, as people – as created in the image of God. 2 Cor 15.16 – from now on we regard no one according to the flesh.
Pray for One
7. That both men and women would flourish in their gifts (1 Peter 2.5; 4.10)
I pray that we won’t be people that are known for what we are against, that we be known for what we are for – participating WITH and FOR God. 2 Cor 5, Ambassador.
