Our culture defines self-control as "the ability to control oneself, to modify your personal behavior & control your emotions in difficult situations.
Self-control is almost an oxymoron.

The cultural definition of self-control implies we are capable of controlling ourselves.

Galatians 5:22

The New Testament defines self-control as the Holy Spirit produced ability to direct your personal energies wisely.

Luke 4:1-13

1st Temptation = Physical in nature

HALT =
Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired

"Learn to say no. It will be of more use to you than to be able to read Latin."
~ Charles Spurgeon

2nd Temptation = Spiritual in nature
Jesus refers to the devil as "the ruler of this world."
John 12:31
The devil is "a liar and the father of all lies."
