Scripture: Daniel 1:8-21
Speaker: Tom Nelson, TomN@ChristCommunityKC.org
>> Determine Where Your Line Is
- Dietrich Bonhoeffer
TAKEAWAY: What is one personal takeaway and one question you have from the sermon on Sunday?
OPENING UP: As we reflect on Tom’s examples, it does appear that it is increasingly difficult to be a Christian in our culture today. How have you seen this to be true? What opportunities can this present for the church?
SCRIPTURE: Read Daniel 1:8-21. Two weeks ago, we said that God is in absolute control over everything in His universe. How do you see God’s continued control over Daniel’s situation in Daniel 1:8-21?
DRAWING CONNECTIONS: The story of Daniel is a story of remaining faithful and distinct in a hostile culture while also being missional and engaged in a hostile culture. What does this kind of faithful present living look like in our day?
MAKE IT PERSONAL: In many ways, Daniel was able to live this faithful life without giving up on his faith or giving into temptation because he trusted his life and his plans to God. How have you navigated a personal crisis of conscience?
PRAYER: Read Jeremiah 17:7-8.
“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes;its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought, and never fails to bear fruit.”
Pray that God will form you into people who with deep roots, confident in their faith commitments, who continue to bear fruit for the glory of God and the good of your communities.
