1 Peter 1:18 (NLT)
18 For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver.

1. We belong to God.

1 Peter 1:19 (KJV)
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

2. The ransom for our life was paid in blood.

a. there is something mysterious about the blood

3. But, who did God have to pay?

Romans 5:12 (NLT)
12 When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

4. Here we see that sin brought death.

Romans 5:21 (NLT)
21 So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

5. So sin and death ruled over all people.

Romans 6:23 (KJV)
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

6. Sin compensates you with death.

James 1:15 (NLT)
15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.

7. You cannot be made to sin.

a. but sin is a choice

Exodus 24:8 (NLT)
8 Then Moses took the blood from the basins and splattered it over the people, declaring, “Look, this blood confirms the covenant the LORD has made with you in giving you these instructions.”

10. God sees, hears, and smells the blood.

Leviticus 17:11 (KJV)
11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

11. Life is in the blood.

a. God is the One who made that a requirement for sin

b. so in order to give you a new beginning, blood is used

12. God brings new beginnings through blood covenants.

Genesis 3:21 (NLT)
21 And the LORD God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.

13. After their fall, when God gave Adam and Eve a new beginning

a. He shed blood from the animals He killed

b. He provided another covering for them

Genesis 8:20-21 (MSG)
20 Noah built an altar to GOD. He selected clean animals and birds from every species and offered them as burnt-offerings on the altar. 21 GOD smelled the sweet fragrance and thought to himself, "I'll never again curse the ground because of people. I know they have this bent toward evil from an early age, but I'll never again kill off everything living as I've just done.

14. After the Flood, God entered into a covenant with Noah, promising not to destroy the earth with water again.

Genesis 15:8 (NLT)
8 But Abram replied, “O Sovereign LORD, how can I be sure that I will actually possess it?”

15. God is about to cut a covenant with Abraham, a friendship covenant.

Genesis 15:9-10 (NLT)
9 The LORD told him, “Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.” 10 So Abram presented all these to him and killed them. Then he cut each animal down the middle and laid the halves side by side; he did not, however, cut the birds in half.

16. He required blood to make that covenant.

Genesis 17:9-10 (NLT)
9 Then God said to Abraham, “Your responsibility is to obey the terms of the covenant. You and all your descendants have this continual responsibility. 10 This is the covenant that you and your descendants must keep: Each male among you must be circumcised.

17. When God required Abraham to seal the covenant, a cut was required to ensure his new beginning.

a. all Abraham had to do was keep the terms of the covenant

18. The blood of Jesus gives us a new beginning.

a. so what is it about the blood

Romans 5:12 (NLT)
12 When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

19. God filled Adam and Eve with His divine blood, which became infected when they sinned; that infection was passed on to all generations of mankind.

a. so now everyone is born with the ability and desire to sin

a. we learn this by knowing the chemical makeup of blood

RED BLOOD CELLS__________________________________________

24. The blood has three basic components:

a. red blood cells - carries nutrients and oxygen

b. white blood cells- fight infection and disease

c. and platelets- healing

25. Jesus’ blood does everything supernaturally for your body, soul, and spirit that the natural blood does for the body.

28. The blood contains white blood cells (leucocytes) which fight infection and disease.

Psalm 51:7 (NLT)
7 Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

29. After initial exposure to disease, the white blood cells create antibodies that kill those specific bacteria and viruses, causing you to be immune to those diseases.

a. vaccinations introduce antibodies into the bloodstream, creating immunization to a disease before infection

30. The blood of Jesus fights sin and acts like antibody for you.

31. When this antibody takes affect, you end up feeling ‘convicted’.

John 8:9 (KJV)
9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

34. The 240,000 platelets (thrombocytes) in a cubic milliammeter of your blood are clotting agents.

35. When the skin is broken or a blood vessel or organ is damaged,

a. the platelets clump together around the tear, creating a dam so blood is not lost through the opening

Isaiah 53:5 (NLT)
5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.

36. All of these things were covered by the blood.

43. Something better was needed.

Hebrews 10:12-13 (NLT)
12 But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 13 There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet.

44. That ‘something better’ was the Paschal Lamb, Jesus.

Hebrews 10:14 (NLT)
14 For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.

45. Jesus’ sacrifice is an eternally perfect blood sacrifice.

a. that is why He had to be born of a virgin

b. His birth was an important part of His sacrifice...why

Genesis 3:15 (KJV)
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

46. God revealed at Adam and Eve’s fall mankind’s redemption would have to be through a virgin-born Saviour. How?

48. Jesus could not be corrupted with Adam’s blood because sin is passed through the blood.

a. the man’s genes determine the baby’s blood system, which is independent of the mother

Matthew 1:18 (NLT)
18 This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.

49. The Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary, causing Jesus’ conception.

Luke 1:34-35 (NLT)
34 Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.” 35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.

50. The Holy Spirit introduced Jesus’ blood system”

Hebrews 2:14 (NLT)

60. The blood has power.

61. The blood of Jesus gives you boldness to enter into the Holy of Holies.

62. Because we are blood bought, we now have access to the promises of God.

Galatians 3:14 (MSG)
14 And now, because of that, the air is cleared and we can see that Abraham's blessing is present and available for non-Jews, too. We are all able to receive God's life, his Spirit, in and with us by believing—just the way Abraham received it.

63. How did this happen?

Genesis 17:7 (MSG)
7 I'm establishing my covenant between me and you, a covenant that includes your descendants, a covenant that goes on and on and on, a covenant that commits me to be your God and the God of your descendants.

Romans 2:29 (NLT)
29 No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by God’s Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people.

70. When we accept Jesus, we are circumcised in our hearts.

a. this action now gives us access to the blessings of Abraham and God’s promises
