Romans 4:14
Romans 4:13-15 The Message (MSG)
That famous promise God gave Abraham—that he and his children would possess the earth—was not given because of something Abraham did or would do. It was based on God’s decision to put everything together for him, which Abraham then entered when he believed. If those who get what God gives them only get it by doing everything they are told to do and filling out all the right forms properly signed, that eliminates personal trust completely and turns the promise into an ironclad contract! That’s not a holy promise; that’s a business deal. A contract drawn up by a hard-nosed lawyer and with plenty of fine print only makes sure that you will never be able to collect. But if there is no contract in the first place, simply a promise—and God’s promise at that—you can’t break it.
Romans 4:14 King James Version (KJV)
For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect
Romans 4:14 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
For if those who are of the Law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise is nullified
Romans 4:14 New Century Version (NCV)
If people could receive what God promised by following the law, then faith is worthless. And God’s promise to Abraham is worthless
Romans 4:14 American Standard Version (ASV)
For if they that are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of none effect
Romans 4:14 New International Version (NIV)
For if those who depend on the law are heirs, faith means nothing and the promise is worthless
Romans 4:14 New King James Version (NKJV)
For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect
Romans 4:14 Amplified Bible (AMP)
If those who are [followers] of the Law are [the true] heirs [of Abraham], then faith [leading to salvation] is of no effect and void, and the promise [of God] is nullified.
Romans 4:14 New Living Translation (NLT)
If God’s promise is only for those who obey the law, then faith is not necessary and the promise is pointless.
